Australia · for tradies, sites and small teams

Your crew spends every day. You find out at the end of the month.

The leading hand or site supervisor enters the expense, the purchase, the stock movement from a phone — and none of it reaches your numbers until you approve it. Inventory, customer and supplier ledgers, cash floats and jobs in one app. Your accounting software keeps doing payroll, STP and BAS. We take the day.

Three engines, one app

Rather than three subscriptions and three copies of the same customer.

Most small Australian businesses run an accounting package, a spreadsheet and a group chat. We replace the last two.

The day's books

Everything that happens before your bookkeeper sees it: entry, order, evidence.

  • Income, expenses and transfers between accounts
  • Purchases and sales with the docket attached
  • A running ledger for every customer and supplier
  • Cash float and bank balances that move while you work
  • Period lock, so a closed month stays closed

Operations

People, sites, stock and plant — where they actually are.

  • Several companies and workplaces in one account
  • Permissions granted feature by feature
  • Inventory on weighted average cost
  • Bills of materials and production orders
  • Plant, vehicles, fuel and servicing

Relationships

A light CRM sitting on the same numbers, not a separate database.

  • A card per counterparty with its movement history
  • Tasks and directives with an owner
  • Internal threads per job
  • Partners and their shares
  • Notifications instead of daily phone calls

What it does in practice

These are screens that exist in the app today, not promises.

The day's money

  • Income and expense with a photo of the docket
  • A cash float per site, with a limit
  • Transfers between accounts
  • Yesterday's net on one screen

Buying and selling

  • Purchase and sales documents
  • Linked to the stock movement automatically
  • Internal delivery dockets
  • Tax rate entered per line

Inventory

  • Weighted average cost
  • Low stock warnings
  • Issued to a named worker
  • Stocktakes and adjustments

People

  • Invite by mobile number
  • Permissions per feature
  • Attendance and hours
  • An action history: who, what, when

Reports

  • Profit and loss by month and by site
  • Aged receivables and payables
  • Cash flow and plans
  • XLSX/CSV export for your accountant

AI assistant

  • A guide bee that explains every screen
  • A financial assistant that reads your numbers

The idea the app is built on

The approval chain.

Most software assumes the person entering the data is the owner. On site the supervisor enters it, and the owner finds out a week later. This turns that around.

1 · A worker enters it

An expense, a purchase or a stock movement from their own phone, with the docket attached.

2 · It waits

Invisible in the lists and moving no balance until it is approved.

3 · You get a notification

Who, how much and why — it opens on your phone wherever you are.

4 · You decide

Approve, reject or ask for an explanation; a rejection goes back with the reason.

5 · Then you delegate

Hand the approval right to a supervisor so you stop being the bottleneck.

The chain leaves a full trail: who entered it and when, who approved it and when. That is exactly what you want six months later when someone asks where a number came from.

Who it suits

And who it does not.

Being straight here will save you more time than any feature list.

It suits you if…

  • People spend your money away from the office
  • You run two or more sites with separate numbers
  • You want stock, ledgers and cash on one screen
  • You manage from a phone more than from a desk
  • Payroll, STP and BAS are already handled somewhere else

Construction · trades · retail · transport · field service

It does not suit you if…

  • You need Single Touch Payroll reporting
  • You need super calculated and paid under Payday Super
  • You need BAS and GST lodgement
  • You need Peppol eInvoicing
  • You need bank feeds and automatic reconciliation

These are not delayed plans — they do not exist today.

Plenty of businesses run both: Xero or MYOB for compliance, i-shim for the day. We are not asking you to replace what keeps you compliant.

Specifically for Australia

Where the rules sit on 2 August 2026 — and where we sit against them.

We write this so you know before you install, not a month afterwards.

Payday Super — the deadline moved this year

  • Since 1 July 2026 super guarantee must reach the fund within seven business days of each payday, instead of quarterly
  • The super guarantee charge was redesigned and the ATO now raises assessments directly from your STP data — close to real-time monitoring
  • A transitional leniency applies through 2026-27 for employers making a genuine effort

i-shim does not calculate or pay super. Not the 12% guarantee, not the seven-day clock, not the charge. If your payroll was quarterly and is now per-payday, that change happens entirely inside your payroll software, not here.

Single Touch Payroll Phase 2

  • Every pay run reports to the ATO as it happens, with Phase 2 asking for a more detailed breakdown of gross pay, allowances and payment types
  • That same feed is what the ATO now uses to assess super shortfalls

We are not STP-enabled software and we do not report to the ATO. Our people module records attendance, hours and the fact that a payment was made. That is an internal record for you, not a lodgement.

The free clearing house is gone

  • The ATO's Small Business Superannuation Clearing House closed on 30 June 2026
  • Small employers who relied on it now need a commercial clearing house or a payroll product that pays super for them

We mention it because it hits exactly the businesses this page is written for — and because we are not a replacement for it. If that closure left you without a way to pay super, the answer is a payroll product, not us.

GST is 10% — and our default says 20

  • GST is 10%, reported through your BAS
  • Our country presets exist only for Turkey and Azerbaijan

So the default rate shown in the app is 20 — double the Australian rate. You enter the rate per line, which works fine, but nobody should discover that number by accident. We also do not prepare or lodge a BAS.

Peppol eInvoicing

  • Australia runs eInvoicing on the Peppol network, established on the government side and spreading through business
  • The major Australian packages connect to it

We are not on the Peppol network. The document our app calls an invoice is an internal record: it does not travel over Peppol and it is not a tax invoice lodged anywhere.

Xero runs this market — so ask the hard question

  • Industry comparisons put Xero above 60% of the online accounting market here, with MYOB around a fifth; QuickBooks and Reckon follow
  • Xero and MYOB already do payroll, STP, super, bank feeds and Peppol

If you already run one of them, the fair question is "why add anything?" — and for a lot of businesses the honest answer is that you should not. Add us only if the thing you cannot see is what your crew spent today and whether you agreed to it. That is the one job we do better, because it is the job we were built for.

What actually works well here

  • English is 100% complete — 11,766 strings, nothing missing
  • All eight states and territories are in the address picker
  • Twelve Australian cities, spelled properly: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra, Newcastle, Wollongong and more
  • The currency is the Australian dollar, set per company

We say this plainly because on several other country pages we had to apologise for half-translated city lists. Australia is the first one where the data underneath is clean.

One wording you should know about

  • Our English glossary calls the customer and supplier ledger a «Current Account»
  • In Australia that phrase reads as a bank account

It means the running balance with a counterparty — what you would call a debtor or creditor ledger. Nothing is wrong with the feature; the label just comes from a different accounting tradition, and we would rather you heard it from us.

Records, and where they live

  • Australian businesses generally keep records for five years
  • We keep a full audit trail and a period lock so a closed month does not move

But our servers are in Western Europe, not Australia, and we are not the system of record for the ATO. Treat what is here as your operational record, alongside the books your accountant actually files from.

What we do not do

Nobody writes this on a page meant to sell something — which is why we do.

In Australia the list is mostly payroll, and payroll here is unusually demanding: real-time reporting, a seven-day super clock and an ATO that reads your pay data as it arrives. If a single line below is essential for you, do not install this.

  • No Single Touch Payroll.

Not Phase 1, not Phase 2. We report nothing to the ATO.

  • No superannuation.

No 12% guarantee calculation, no Payday Super seven-day clock, no clearing house, no SGC.

  • No Australian payroll.

No PAYG withholding, no award interpretation, no leave accruals or leave loading. The engine inside is built for Turkey and Azerbaijan.

  • No BAS and no GST lodgement.

You enter a rate per line; that is the whole of it.

  • Not on the Peppol network.

    No eInvoicing, B2G or B2B.

  • No tax invoice.

What the app calls an invoice is an internal document.

  • No bank feeds.

Import a statement or enter it by hand.

  • Country presets exist only for Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Which is why the default tax rate shows 20 rather than 10.

  • No ABN or ACN lookup and validation.
  • No Fair Work award interpretation or rostering.

Attendance and hours are recorded; they are not interpreted against an award.

  • No import format for Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or Reckon.

We give XLSX and CSV with a period lock.

  • «Current Account» means the counterparty ledger, not a bank account.

A wording inherited from another accounting tradition.

  • Data is not hosted in Australia.

The servers are in Western Europe.

  • It does not work offline.

Financial data is written straight to the server, because the approval chain needs a single source of truth.

We add features constantly and some of this will change — but we do not promise dates. What you are reading is the app as it is today.

From install to first entry

1 · Sign up

Mobile or email. No card.

2 · Create the company

Name, industry, city, state and currency — Australian dollars.

3 · Add a workplace

Even one: sites are what separate the numbers later.

4 · Invite a worker

The one who spends the most — and set permissions feature by feature.

5 · Enter one of each

One expense and one purchase — then watch the approval arrive.

If that takes you more than fifteen minutes the problem is ours: write to [email protected] and tell us where you got stuck.

Us and the Australian packages

An honest comparison starts with an admission.

Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Reckon are built around compliance — payroll, STP, super, BAS, bank feeds, Peppol — and there they are plainly better than us, because we do none of it. In Australia that is not a detail; it is the entry ticket, and Xero in particular has won this market decisively. They start from the accountant and the ATO. We start from the owner and the site.

Frequently asked questions

Does i-shim do Single Touch Payroll?

No. Not Phase 1 and not Phase 2. We are not STP-enabled software and we report nothing to the ATO. Our people module records attendance, hours and the fact that a payment was made, which is an internal record for you rather than a lodgement. Payroll stays in Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, Reckon or with your bookkeeper.

What about super, now that Payday Super has started?

We do not touch super at all. Since 1 July 2026 the guarantee has to reach the fund within seven business days of each payday instead of quarterly, and the ATO now raises the super guarantee charge straight from your STP data. That whole clock lives in your payroll software. If Payday Super is the problem you are trying to solve, this is not the app.

The ATO closed the free clearing house. Can you replace it?

No, and we would rather say so immediately. The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House closed on 30 June 2026 and small employers who used it need a commercial clearing house or a payroll product that pays super for them. We are neither. We mention it only because it hit exactly the businesses this page is written for.

Then why would I use it?

For the day, not for the ATO. Who spent what this week, whether that expense passed your approval, what this customer owes you right now, what is left in the site cash float and what is actually on the racks. Your accounting package does not answer those in the morning, from your phone, before the money is gone.

What is the approval chain?

A worker enters an expense, a purchase or a stock movement from their own phone. It waits — invisible in the lists, moving no balance — until you approve it. You can reject it with a reason, ask for an explanation, or hand the approval right to a supervisor once being the bottleneck yourself stops being convenient.

Does it calculate GST at 10%?

Not automatically. You enter the rate on each line. The default shown is 20, because country presets exist only for Turkey and Azerbaijan — and in Australia that is double the real rate, so it is worth knowing before you start. We also do not prepare or lodge a BAS.

Does it connect to Peppol for eInvoicing?

No. We are not on the Peppol network in any direction. What the app calls an invoice is an internal document: it does not travel over Peppol and it is not a tax invoice lodged anywhere.

Do you have bank feeds?

No. There is no automatic feed and no rules-based reconciliation. You import a statement or enter transactions by hand. If daily bank reconciliation is your main pain, the Australian packages do it and we do not.

I already use Xero. Should I add this?

Often the honest answer is no. Industry comparisons put Xero above 60% of the online accounting market here for good reason: it covers payroll, STP, super, bank feeds and Peppol. Add us only if the thing you cannot see is what your crew spent today and whether you agreed to it — the site-level control, not the compliance.

Is the English complete?

Yes, and this is the one place we can say it without a caveat: 11,766 strings, 100% coverage, nothing missing. Australia is also the first country page where the underlying data is clean — all eight states and territories are there, and the twelve Australian cities are spelled properly rather than left in the language the app was first written in.

Why is it called a «Current Account»?

Because our English glossary uses that phrase for the running ledger with a customer or supplier — a debtor or creditor account. In Australia the same words read as a bank account, so it is worth flagging. The feature is the counterparty ledger; only the label comes from a different accounting tradition.

Can I give the data to my accountant?

Yes, in one XLSX or CSV file, with a period lock so a closed month does not move. There is no import format for Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or Reckon, and we lodge nothing on your behalf.

Does it handle awards, rosters and leave?

No. Attendance and hours are recorded, but nothing is interpreted against a Fair Work award, no leave accrues and no leave loading is calculated. Treat the hours as evidence for whoever does run your payroll.

Does it do jobs and cost centres?

Yes. You can charge expenses, stock and plant hours to a job and see what it really cost. Client-facing quotes with digital signature, no.

What does it cost?

There is a permanently free tier that genuinely works for a small business. Beyond that it is a subscription, priced per country by Apple and Google, which is why no figure appears here. Unlike the Australian packages, the free tier does not expire after a trial.

Where is my data stored?

In Google Firebase, with access enforced server-side: anyone outside your company cannot read its data. The servers are in Western Europe — not in Australia — and we are not the system of record for the ATO.

Does it work offline?

No. Financial data is written straight to the server because the approval chain needs a single source of truth. Only the chat keeps a local copy.

Honestly, is it for me?

If you are a sole trader with no staff, no — there is nothing to approve. If your problem is payroll, STP, super or BAS, also no; the Australian packages do that and do it properly. It is for you if people spend your money away from the office, you run two or more sites, and compliance is already handled somewhere else.

I found a bug. How do I tell you?

There is a guide bee inside the app: type «feedback» to it and your message reaches the team with a screenshot attached. Or email [email protected].
